Changeable Beast presents FRUITING BODIES at the Old Parcels Office Artspace, Scarborough.

5 April - 27 April 2025, Thurs - Sun 11am – 4pm (entry to The Old Parcels Office is FREE)

Curated by Rob Moore and Sandy Layton, 18 members of Changeable Beast will exhibit alongside six guest artists, each invited for their alignment with the collective’s ethos and the conceptual depth of their work. Guest artists include Scarborough-based artists Jacqui Barrowcliffe and Molly Newnham alongside nationally recognised sculptors Paul Bonomini, David Kefford, Catriona Robertson and Elspeth Billie Penfold.

Fruiting Bodies: in biological terms these are the reproductive organs of fungi, structures that emerge from the ground to disperse spores and give rise to new life. In a broader metaphorical sense, fruiting bodies symbolise the growth of ideas, the processes of transformation, and the fragile nature of existence.

Changeable Beast seeks to explore these themes through sculptural practices. Work in a diverse range of materials and media from found objects to ceramics, steel and wood, hi-tech to traditional will be shown.

Changeable Beast are a London-based artist collective known for their dynamic and experimental approach to sculpture, embracing materiality and process as central concerns. We foster an evolving exchange between artists, materials, and the environment, continually pushing the boundaries of sculptural form.

Comprised of 24 sculptors who exhibit regularly and act as a mutually supportive forum, they aim to show the potential of sculpture to enhance lives and bring people together through regular exhibitions, events, workshops and education projects. Changeable Beast met whilst on the MASS Sculpture Year at Thames-Side Studios in 2022-23.
